Except The Past

A film by Sanaz Azari

2024 | CREATIVE DOCUMENTARY | 90’ | IN PRODUCTION

François Makanga, Béatrice Sibi and Benjamin Dujardin are guides at the Africa Museum in Tervuren.
The museum reopened in 2018 after 5 years of renovation. The big challenge of this renovation is to exhibit a contemporary and decolonized vision of Africa in a building that was originally designed for colonial propaganda. The film follows the museum journey of these 3 guides, each offering visitors a unique story. Three guides, three stories, three visions that will question us on how to decolonize our glance.
